September 24, 2007
CMC Electronics' latest generation Global Positioning System (GPS)-based CMA-9000 Flight Management System (FMS) has been selected by Piaggio Aero Industries for the retrofit of six (6) Piaggio P166-DP1 aircraft. The aircraft are operated by the "Guardia di Finanza", Italy's Border Patrol agency. The CMA-9000 is part of the Communications Navigation Identification architecture provided by SELEX Communications, a Finmeccanica Company.
Cathy Bain, CMC Electronics Vice President, Marketing and Sales, said: "We are delighted to announce this important business jet sale of our CMA-9000 to Piaggio Aero Industries for the P166-DP1 aircraft. Our latest FMS has already been selected by Pilatus for the PC-21 turboprop trainer aircraft, by Thales for their avionics suite on the Sukhoi SuperJet 100, and by a number of
C-130 operators."
Maurizio Tucci, SELEX Communications CEO, said: "This announcement underscores our company's reputation for excellence in civil avionics solutions. I am confident that our partnership with CMC will be a success as well as a springboard for continued opportunities in the integration of additional civil avionics platforms."
The CMA-9000 is a family of compact FMS variants that is well suited for modern digital cockpits in fixed and rotary wing aircraft for both civil and military applications. It is the next-generation FMS derived from CMC's successful CMA-900 FMS/GPS and CMA-3000 helicopter FMS. The single unit CMA-9000 has civil certified multi-sensor (GPS, INS, DME and EGI) navigation capabilities. It conforms to the ARINC-739 multifunction control display unit standard, making it suitable as a display and control unit for other systems such as ACARS, ACMS and Satcom. For the P166-DP1 upgrade, CMC's CMA-9000 manages the SELEX Communication and Identification Systems (V/UHF SRT-651, HF SRT-170. Inmarsat HSD-7000 and IFF M425 Mode 5).
The CMC Electronics' CMA-900 has received more FAA and other national Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approvals than any competing product for the avionics upgrade of B747 Classic aircraft. The CMA-900 has been successfully installed and integrated on a number of C-130 aircraft worldwide. With recent orders, the CMA-900 is now in service with over 60 airlines and military operators. The CMA-3000 has been selected for the onboard avionics and fleet upgrades of several aircraft types, including the Swiss Army Super Puma Mark I fleet, the Bavarian Police and German Army EC-135 training helicopters, France's Securite Civile EC-145s, the French Air Force's EC-725 Combat SAR helicopters, and an international AS-332 Super Puma helicopter fleet upgrade. The CMA-3000 carries the pedigree of commercial FAA certification for operation in congested civilian airspace.
