Stansted-Manchester service enhanced

South East England travellers will benefit from extra flights and improved business-led timings when new carrier Eastern Airways commences its Stansted – Manchester service from the winter season.

The UK regional airline will succeed Air Berlin on the route from 29 October 2007, introducing increased frequency with three flights each weekday to Manchester ensuring a greater choice of flights for south east business commuters.

With a choice of up to 15 flights a week from Stansted to Manchester, the service will appeal to both business and leisure travellers heading to Manchester city centre, Cheshire, North Wales, Merseyside, Derbyshire and Lancashire. Weekday flights will depart from Stansted at 8.45am, 4pm and 7.20pm, arriving in Manchester at 9.50am, 5.05pm and 8.25pm. Services from Manchester will take off at 7.15am, 2.20pm and 5.40pm, landing in Stansted at 8.10am, 3.15pm and 6.35pm.

Eastern Airways is no stranger to flying between Stansted and Manchester after successfully operating its punctual service for three years until 2006, when it withdrew from the niche route as Air Berlin started services. Now that the German low cost carrier has withdrawn its services, Eastern Airways has stepped in to rescue the route.

Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways' chief operating officer, said: "This announcement is great news for travellers in South East England as we are not only ensuring a continuation of this important link to Manchester, but are providing an enhanced schedule with greater flexibility for business and leisure travellers. The convenience of three flights a day from Stansted will ensure business passengers can choose how to maximise their time in the North West."

Nick Barton, BAA Stansted's Business Development and Planning Director, said: "We welcome the return of Eastern Airways back to Stansted and are delighted that they will be offering an increased frequency of flights to Manchester. This will provide a much wider choice of flights during the week for both business commuters and leisure travellers alike, on what is a very popular route between Stansted and the North West of the country."
